Yesterday’s Zimmerman Kiser Sutcliffe Winter Park 10k race was such a blast! When it comes to location and after race swag, this race is a must run.
The course takes you through the beautiful neighborhood of Winter Park, Florida, through an old, brick road community with beautiful awe-worthy homes. And to add to the courses beauty, the weather was perfect for running. Think crisp cool air and bright sun shining through the giant moss filled trees.
Race Day Fun
I ran this race with two of my friends from work and we had a blast. We started off the race all together and about half way through, Debbie (featured below, kind of) was feeling great and felt the energy to pick up her pace and break away. She is extremely athletic and this was her first 10k race, so we encouraged her to do so!
I stayed back with Danielle for a while but she completed the distance dare before the 10k which added an additional 2 miles to her race, so obviously she started getting tired before I did and I broke away from her at about mile 4.
Mile 4, by the way, was my absolute favorite mile of the race course. It took us by some of the largest homes I’ve ever seen. And to the right, was a beautiful lake where I had to stop for a second to admire a crew team practicing. It was super cool.
I would love to try that some day!
The Race Finish
We all made it to the finish line and felt really proud of how we finished.
And guess who met me at the finish line?
My beautiful family! I guess little Rylee was woken up early from her nap to get there on time, so she was still a little out of it.
But I’ve always wanted to greet little Rylee at the finish line at one of my races. I finally got the opportunity to do so for the first time. It was such a proud momma moment!
To reward us after the race, everyone got a complimentary craft beer. They were offering one of my favorites – Fat Tire. Cheers!
(That’s Rocco in Debbie’s purse, by the way. He’s the cutest!)
After our reward for a great race, we all headed over to Briarpatch, the well-known breakfast place in Winter Park for some post-race nourishment.
The omelet was delicious and filled with apples, brie and ham; the photo of the outside just doesn’t do it justice. Rylee loved it too!
We had such a great time at the race and the three of us girls have made an annual tradition, now.
And I have to feature the swag. Not only was the metal is awesome, but we also got this commemorative glass, which is so nice.
On to the next race now! Running races with friends is a really great way to connect and enjoy the weekend together. I loved it! Check out my recap of The Color Run in Clearwater Florida for another fun experience.
