If you’ve ever needed proof that running doesn’t have to feel like a chore… this is it. I kicked off the year with one of the most fun, high-energy races I’ve ever done—The Color Run in Clearwater, Florida. It’s an event that’s earned its reputation as “The Happiest 5K on the Planet.” I’m thrilled to share my experience from my very first race of the year in Clearwater, Florida, with this Color Run Clearwater recap.
What The Color Run Is (And Why Everyone Loves It)
If you’ve never heard of it, The Color Run definitely lives up to the hype of being known as “The Happiest 5K on the Planet.” It’s not about pace or personal records. It’s about showing up, having fun, and embracing the experience from start to finish. Throughout the race, there are sections with color throwers, each with a specific color. By the end of it, you’re covered head to toe in a rainbow of color, a little out of breath, and probably smiling way more than you expected.
The Pre-Race Vibes: Music, Movement & Energy
From the moment we arrived, the energy was contagious. Even with the clouds overhead, the festival atmosphere lifted everyone’s spirits. We couldn’t help but feel the excitement with the music pumping from the main stage, Zumba instructors leading pre-race warmups, and runners of all ages gathering at the starting line.
It was one of those moments where you could feel the excitement building. Before we even made it to the starting line, it already felt like an experience—not just a race.

To get a real feel of the event, you can see for yourself! Here’s my full video recap of the race, and yes… the surprise guest runner.
The Surprise That Made This Race Unforgettable
Wanna know one of my favorite parts of the day? I got to run with my husband Brett! This wasn’t our original plan—my good friend Loreyn was supposed to join, but law school commitments kept her away. Brett saw how disappointed I was and stepped in at the last minute.
And if you know him, you know this made it even more meaningful because he is not a runner. At all. But he showed up anyway, without hesitation, and ran it with me.
What could have been a solo race turned into one of my favorite race memories. We laughed the entire time, and at some point, it didn’t even feel like we were running anymore. It just felt like we were having fun together. Knowing he did that for me made the whole experience that much more special.

The After Party (aka Color Chaos in the Best Way)
Crossing the finish line was only part of the fun because the celebration kept going afterward. This particular tour theme was Kaleidoscope, and we celebrated at the after party which was filled with music, dancing, and some really fun photo opportunities.
One of the photos I took ended up looking way cooler than I expected—one of those perfect, unplanned moments that you don’t fully appreciate until you look back at it later. It made me even more excited to see what they come up with each year.
Would I Do The Color Run Again?
Without hesitation, yes. This is one of those races that reminds you fitness doesn’t always have to be serious to be meaningful. Whether you’re an experienced runner or just getting started, it creates an environment where you can just enjoy the moment and move your body without pressure.
Thinking About Signing Up? Here’s What to Know
If you’re considering doing The Color Run, here are a few quick tips:
- Go with a friend (or recruit one like I did 😉)
- Wear white (trust me—you’ll want the full color effect)
