I am still on a high from our awesome weekend in Savannah and our run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. Here is a recap of our experience if you are interested in signing up in the future and want to know what to expect at the Rock n Roll Half Marathon.

I had a blast exploring the beautiful city with my 2 best friends, Lauren and Loreyn, and could not imagine running the race without them there.

Loreyn helped me push through the race to the finish line and Lauren cheered us on from the side lines and met us at there to celebrate. Having them both there was so amazing!

November is a great time to run a race in Savannah, it was was the most gorgeous day with weather in the 60’s and the sun shining. There were over 20,000 people there for the race! It was packed with runners and supporters!

Loreyn is the perfect partner to run this race with because we both run at the same pace and have the same PR for a half marathon of 2:30.

I have never ran in a long race like this with anyone before and I loved it! We supported each other and cheered each other on, staying together the entire way. I loved every minute of it!

Our favorite part of the race was at mile 7, when we were running through a gorgeous moss-covered tree lined road.

And that is where we found Lauren!

It was so fun to see her cheering for US in the race! We pushed through and ended up finishing with a new PR! 2:25! We beat our best time by 5 minutes! We were super proud!

We were so in the zone, pushing through the pain of our achy legs to get that time that I didn’t even realize I crossed the finish line! I noticed everyone ahead of us started walking and I remember asking Loreyn, “Wait, did we finish?” And we did!

After getting our medals, we headed straight to the field where the after party was being held to stretch. Our legs felt like jello, but we didn’t care! Still had smiles on our faces!

My favorite part of race day was the after party. We were so happy about our race time and couldn’t wait to see the headliner concert for our celebration! Phillip Phillips!

We grabbed some champagne at the Barefoot tent, signed up for a post-half marathon massage, posted up right in front of the stage with our delicious and refreshing Mich Ultras and basked in the glorious sunshine and our successful run.

I am so glad that the race provided these thermal sheets to use after the race, cause once our body temp cooled down, it was a pretty chilly day!

The sun felt so nice on our backs, though! And then it was time to see Phillip Phillips!

He was so good! We loved his performance because his music just makes you feel so good and happy. He was great live!

After jamming out to his performance, we headed back to the massage tables for our massages. It worked out perfectly since we put our names on the list already, we were the next ones up and went right in to the next available chair.

I really needed that massage! It felt great!

After our massages, we were ready to head back to the hotel, get dressed and explore Savannah.

On our way back to the hotel on Bull Street we passed by the Chippewa Square, where Forest Gump’s bench was located in the movie! So cool!

After we had our late and delicious lunch at The Public Kitchen, we continued to shop around the unique boutiques and explore the pretty streets of Savannah.

Since we ate lunch at such a weird time, we never made it out to dinner and ended up hanging out in the hotel room, chatting and drinking champagne until it was ready to hit the town for some music and dancing.

We didn’t make it too far from the hotel before hearing some live music, from Bill the entertainer who played the best music! We danced and met some friendly folks before heading upstairs to a rooftop bar where we spent the rest of the night.

These girls are so fun! I loved that we got quiet time to reconnect and catch up on each other’s lives and that we got to dance and have fun like we used to back in the college days.

This is a weekend that I will never forget! We already can’t wait to plan our next trip together!

And now that training is over, I am looking forward to my next fitness adventure! I definitely have the race bug and want to run another one soon. But I am also excited to focus on working out in more ways than just running, like more strength training and dance classes.

I love the feeling a good race puts you in. The feeling of accomplishment, motivation and pride. I’m more motivated than ever to be fit right now and it’s right in time for the holidays — cause we all know that it’s easy to fall off the health train around this time of year!

Let’s stay healthy and fit together! What is motivating you to keep it up through the holiday season this year?
