Ah – New Years. The season for making new goals and aspirations… and then failing to make them actually happen halfway through the year. Ha! Seriously, though. I truly do not know very many people who actually keep and focus on their goals year-round. This is exactly why I believe we should make goals that are attainable and will directly benefit our day-to-day life. If you are with me, let’s start coming up with our list now! If you need some help, here are four New Years resolutions to incorporate this year. Each of the below resolutions will help make sure that you are thriving and loving each and every day.
New Years Resolutions to Incorporate This Year
1. Get more zzz’s
Getting more sleep sounds easy in theory, but so many people find it hard to achieve. It’s the most important thing to change if you are feeling stressed. The average amount of sleep needed by adults for their body and mind to be fully rested is around seven hours a night. More for a lot of us! This, of course, can vary, but you know you aren’t getting enough when your mood is negatively affected. Lack of sleep can stop you thinking clearly, wrecks productivity and can alter your mood significantly. Plus, you are a lot less likely to eat healthy, exercise and engage in fun activities, all because you are too tired.
And when it comes to having that much needed “me time”, which for many women doesn’t come until everyone is asleep and work and errands are complete, staying up late is usually the only way to get it. But staying up late is probably not working for you and improving your sleep is one of the best ways to improve the quality of your life. So ask for help when you need it or give yourself a break because it’s totally necessary to have “me time”—just not at the expense of sleep!
2. Focus on healthy eating
Eating right is perhaps the first step towards a healthy lifestyle and it has the potential to fuel you throughout the day. However, it’s probably one of the hardest resolutions to keep year round. There is a way to keep going with the resolution and it’s by making minor changes to your diet that you can stick to. For example, add leafy vegetables to your meals to help with fiber intake and improve digestion. Or try cutting down on junk, consuming foods that are nourishing and not processed. Eat seasonal fruits for dessert. And when you make the decision to indulge, reset the next day and don’t let it become a habit.
3. Love where you live
Life is short. Way too short to not enjoy where you live. Thankfully, I love Florida and Winter Garden, but there are so many people who are unhappy with their state or house. If this sounds like you, maybe make it a New Year’s resolution to figure out how you can love where you live again. If you live in Florida or want to move to the area and need help finding a place to live, there’s a Ramsey endorsed realtor that comes highly recommended. Compass Real Estate, Erin E King MBA, REALTOR®️ can help when it comes to finding homes, like these Avondale FL homes for sale, and has a lot of education, knowledge, and experience when it comes to buying and selling homes in Florida—specifically the Jacksonville area. Loving where you live is important, so make sure you have a safe roof over your head, in a place that you love.
4. Incorporate more relaxation each day
Life definitely gets to a point where it’s really hard to fit in time for yourself with so much to do every single day. But, I’ve learned that if you don’t take the time to look after yourself, you won’t be well enough to love and care for all the other people in your life. Patience can wear quickly and when that runs out, it’s likely you are also very cranky, overly sensitive, and generally not as happy as you’d like to be. Needless to say, it’s very important to take time for yourself to relax and refuel each day, even if it’s only ten minutes.
Here are a few ideas to help take you into 2023:
- Take warm baths. This will help your body reach a temperature that is ideal for rest and relaxation. Before bed is an awesome time to do so. Add a cup of hot tea while you’re at it for full relaxation.
- Write down to-do lists for the next day. This will help organize your thoughts and processes, to reduce stress and worry. These free routine planning and goal setting printables can help you document this.
- Do light yoga stretches to relax your muscles and for mental clarity.
- Consider mediation—don’t knock it until you try it! There are so many apps and programs to help guide you through this.
- Avoid screens at least 2+ hours before bedtime to allow for restful sleep at night.
