This past weekend my friends and I teamed up to run the Oceans 50 Relay Race in Palm Coast Florida.
It was such an awesome event, I have never done any kind of relay race like this and it was so much fun! All together, our team ran 50 miles throughout different trails, streets and even the beach in Palm Coast Florida!
We stayed at the beautiful Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa, which was the perfect distance from the race start and finish, in a 3 bedroom condo so our whole group could be together.
We all arrived some time on Friday and had a team dinner of pesto pasta at the hotel before heading to bed somewhat early for race day the next day.
We were all prepared to run in the rain on and off all day, which is what the weather report said, but when the sun rose in the morning, the rain magically disappeared and it was a beautiful day. We were so happy to see the sun rise on the beach in time for our start time at 6:30am, and no rain.
The weather was gorgeous at the starting line, and the sun shined the entire race.
I loved cheering on our team at each exchange and we all snapped a photo of the exact moment we all bumped fists and tagged each other in.
This timeline of exchanges never gets old. I love it! We loved looking back at each exchange, every time—especially the finish line!
Each leg was between 2.4 and 6 miles and they were all so different! There were standard trails and sidewalk routes, actual trail runs with no sidewalks and crazy obstacles, a giant bridge to cross, lovely parks and even the beach, which was the last leg.
Nicole was the last one to run and the final quarter mile of her leg was on the beach! We were all there waiting for her (and celebrating a bit early ha!).
As soon as we saw her, we all ran to her and finished the race on the beach, crossing the finish line together as a team!
It felt so good to cross the finish line together and feel the accomplishment we all achieved! We were so ready for our ice cold beers and pizza after this long day! They were the best beers and pizza we ever had!
I am so proud of our team! We all ran at our very best and did such an amazing job! We came in 7th place in the coed team division, and even though it isn’t about winning first place, I feel like we all won and made some amazing memories as friends and team mates. We ran 50 miles in under 8 hours! Go team WG Bounce!
Back at the hotel we were so ready to enjoy the amazing amenities, like this giant pool-sized, adults-only hot tub.
It was exactly what our bodies needed and it felt amazing!
A great ending to a great experience with great friends.
Although our legs are still screaming from soreness… we are ready for the next race. Definitely an experience to remember!
If you are looking for something new and different to your typical race weekend, and a challenging team-building experience, this race is for you. We all definitely bonded as friends this past weekend and now have so many inside jokes and memories to share forever. We will for sure be doing it again.
Take it from Erik, the runner who kicked off WG Bounce into greatness. 🙂
Wow looks like an amazing experience!
