Happy Friday! I hope you are doing wonderful this Fab Five Friday and gearing up for a fun-filled weekend. Or a relaxing, no plans kinda weekend, both are welcomed at times! This weekend, though, it’s Father’s Day. And to add to that, my mom is celebrating a big birthday (never reveal a woman’s age) and Brett is also celebrating his birthday. It should be a fun (and busy) weekend for us, but we are so excited and it’s my number one Fab Five item for today!
1. Father’s Day/ Weekend Plans
My brother and Brett’s parents are coming back up to celebrate all the holidays with everyone and we have lots of fun things planned. Or I should say, lots of yummy things to eat! We’re having a small, but fancy dinner party Saturday night for Mom’s birthday, and then on Sunday, a full on brunch buffet followed by gifts, golf watching and some birthday cake for Brett.
Tonight, I am also volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House with some co-workers, cooking a meal for families at the nearby children’s hospital. We’ve been talking about doing it for a while now and we finally got a group together to go. We’re looking forward to helping families who are going through some hard times right now, especially before a weekend where lots of people are celebrating.
2. Next Year In Havana by Chanel Cleeton
I absolutely love a book club pick! The girls and I rotate and pick books for the club to read and discuss. And I loved this pick! It isn’t something I would normally gravitate to, but the story was so beautiful. It really painted a picture of what life was like in Havana as Castro was coming into power, and I loved the characters. A lovely story I definitely recommend.
3. Anatomy by Dana Schwartz
Another book I had on my list that I just finished. It was a riveting story set in Scotland in the 1800’s and an interesting mix of fact and fiction about the science of medicine, woven into a love story and featuring a power house female lead. And the best part about it is I learned after finishing that there is a sequel to this story, which I am 100% reading next. I just love finding a book and author I love, and to find out that the story continues!
4. Stanley Cup
OK, I totally jumped on the Stanley cup train. But I have to tell you that the hype is real! I had a giant 30oz cup that I was using regularly, and it was so clunky and hard to hold, so I really wanted one with a handle. And that is what drew me to this cup. Plus, they just do a really nice job with design of it, which is why people are drawn to it, it’s so pretty! I got the Rose Quartz color. It took forever to come from Amazon, but I like it. It keeps the drinks cold longer than my previous bulky cup, and I like the plastic straw versus the metal one—it’s less noisy and more comfortable to drink out of. Overall I like it, so judge me why don’t you, but try it for yourself first 🙂
5. Rylee’s Dance Photos + Update
Rylee’s dance photos came in and she looks so cute! We’re really proud of her season this year, she’s really grown a lot and found a passion for dance. And that warms my heart. She did amazing at the recital a few weekends ago and was a shining star on stage. Then, she had her dance intensive week and tryout for the Prep Competition Team last week, and we just found out she made it! We are so proud and excited to start a new season focused on dance! Yay!
I hope you all have a great weekend. Most of all filled with love and family. Let me know what your up to this weekend in the comments below!
