Finding time for the gym during a busy week doesn’t always fit in the schedule between office hours and mom duty. So how do you find fun and active ways to spend time with your family on the weekends? 6 Ways to Live an Active Lifestyle As A Family

1) Plan Outdoor Activities on the Weekends

Get those bikes and rollerblades out and find a local trail to ride. If it’s hot out, plan a trip to the community pool—and while your kids splash around, try to sneak in a few laps for yourself so you’re all staying active. And have you ever tried doing a couple pullups on the monkey bars at your kid’s favorite park? Yeah, you’ll feel good after that.

2) Look For State Parks, Springs or Nature Preserves Close By

If you’re looking for a bit more adventure, check out what local state parks are in your area. There could be hiking trails to explore, kayaks to rent, springs to swim in, and of course nature and wildlife to discover. Check out http://www.stateparks.org to find parks in your state and plan your visit.

3) Play Sports

All you need to do to work up a sweat is play a sport. Many parks have recreational facilities like tennis courts or basketball courts so get out there for an hour or two and practice your skills. Find a field to kick the soccer ball around or practice your golf swing. And maybe you’ll start a new hobby to enjoy with your little ones!

4) Register for races together as a family

Not only is participating in a race with your family a great memory and accomplishment to share with each other, but training for the big day brings such a great feeling of camaraderie and connection between you, and can keep you active with your family on the weekends. If your kids are too small to run with you, try bringing them along in the stroller or entering them into a kids race. They are usually very short distances and sometimes they are even free! And it makes for a fun and inspiring activity after they greet you at the finish line.

5) Go Strawberry Picking

Or head to any farm where you can guide yourself and pick your own produce. Not only is it a great experience for the littles, but do you know how much walking you will do? If there are none nearby, try heading to a local farmer’s market. They are usually outside in nice locations for walking and you’ll get to pick up some yummy, fresh produce to snack on later.

6) Take The Long Way

And when the weekend just calls for running errands, park a little farther than normal and enjoy the walk to the store. Take the stairs instead of the elevator at the mall, carry your groceries to the car or do calf raises while you’re waiting in line. I’m sure the littles wouldn’t mind a little extra activity while running all those super fun errands with you.
