This past weekend, we drove down to Longboat Key, Florida to celebrate a good friend’s 40th birthday. All of us had family on the west coast and dropped the kids off so we could enjoy a weekend at the beach—adults only!

We stayed at the Zota Beach Resort, which was really beautiful and right on the beach. It looked newly renovated and was so pretty inside. All we needed was the beach nearby and a hot tub. And Zota had both!

It was actually quite a change for all of us, and we were constantly appreciating what it was like to not have to… well, not have to parent constantly for a change! Especially coming off a family weekend like Memorial Day, it was fresh in our minds what it was like to constantly ask a little person to “Get dressed.” or “Put on your shoes!” multiple times per day. We were all just so incredibly grateful to be able to get away for a few days, recharge and enjoy quality adult time together. When these moments are so few and far between, it’s amazing what a difference it makes and how ignited we felt afterwards.

We spent literally all day on Saturday between the pool and the beach. And the entire time there was a tropical depression threatening to ruin our time. Luckily, the weather gods decided to keep the horrible weather away and give us a gorgeous weekend. I have to admit, the intermittent cloud coverage was quite delightful, because we otherwise it would have been unbearably scorching out.

At one point, it did rain, but we did not care at all. We just ducked into the hot tub for a while. Our hotel room had a summer special running and we all got breakfast included at the restaurant, which was really good.

Saturday night we all went to the hotel restaurant for dinner and it was really nice.

We all hung around as long as we could Sunday before we had to head back, and as much as we weren’t ready to leave the gorgeous beach, we had such a wonderful time making memories with friends, and couldn’t wait to see our crazy kids again. Or should I say, Nana and Papa couldn’t wait for us to come and retrieve them! 😉
