If you’re dreaming of a girls’ trip that blends Southern hospitality with seriously good food, rooftop cocktails and rich history, this guide is for you. Why February in Charleston is Actually Perfect

Most people don’t think of February as prime travel season. But Charleston in winter is a well-kept secret, and honestly, I think we experienced it at its absolute best.

Think light jacket or sweater during the day. Comfortable enough to stroll King Street without sweating and cool enough to enjoy an afternoon cocktail at a rooftop bar. At night a jacket or coat is comfortable and flat boots dress you up while keeping you comfortable for walking.

February also means you get to lean into the Galentine’s theme in the most fun and girly way.

Where to Stay in Charleston for a Girls’ Trip

For a group trip, renting a house is the way to go. We stayed in an adorable pink house within walking distance of some of our favorite spots. It was so nice having a common space to decompress, pregame, and play games together on the last night—which was one of the highlights of the whole trip.

Our Recommendation: Rent a House

Look for rentals in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough or Harleston Village neighborhoods. For a group of 6–10, splitting a house will likely come out cheaper than hotel rooms, too, and adds so much more to the experience. Our house was on Line Street and the location was great. Even a 20 minute walk to lunch one day felt super safe and doable in the gorgeous weather.

Hotel Alternatives:

If a house isn’t your vibe, Charleston has no shortage of stunning hotels to choose from. When looking for a place to stay, location matters so much, since the city is very pedestrian-friendly. Here are a few options depending on your budget and preferred experience, from high-end luxury to classic Southern hospitality.

The Splurge: Hotel Bennett or The Dewberry

On the higher end of the budget are Hotel Bennett and The Dewberry, ranging from $500-$900+ a night. You can’t beat the location of either of these, both overlooking Marion Square, right off King Street (The Bennett) and Meeting Street (The Dewberry). Both offer award-winning dining, historic architecture and rooftop bars.

The More Budget-Friendly: The Francis Marion Hotel

Not far away from those luxury options, is the Francis Marion Hotel which offers a more accessible price point without sacrificing the “prime” location. (Nightly rates range from $220-$450/night). A favorite for its 1920s elegance and a historic landmark named after Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion.

The Bed & Breakfast: The Nicholas

If a more private, bed and breakfast is the experience you’re looking for, check out The Nicholas. Located in the moss-draped Harleston Village two blocks off Lower King Street, it’s a reimagined 1798 house, with 9 rooms and a private plunge pool. With rates ranging from $290-$499 per night, it offers a more intimate, local touch and includes an “Epicurean Grab+Go” breakfast.

Our 3-Day Charleston Girls’ Trip Itinerary

Before I dive into the best restaurants, bars and nightlife in Charleston, here’s exactly how we spent our long weekend, straight from the itinerary that kept us on track. And having the time of our lives.

Day 1 – Thursday — Arrival & Party Vibes

6:00 AM –We were coming from Central Florida, so we loaded up the mini-van and drove up super early in the morning. It’s about a 6 hour drive so we wanted to get there in time for a late lunch.

3:00 PM – We arrived at our house, chose our rooms and unpacked a bit before heading out to our first stop of the day, Bay Street Biergarten. We walked there from our place, which wasn’t long, however it we thought we took a wrong turn at one point. Once we got there, though, the food, service and atmosphere was great.

6:00 PM – From there, we kept things casual and took a ride-share to Edmund’s Oast brewery for craft beers and good vibes. We kept it going into the night at a recommended local bar that was walking distance from our house called the Recovery Room. Now that was an unexpected good time. I love when a good “see where the night takes you” works out.

Day 2 – Friday — Cheers & Chills

10:00 AM – First thing was first, Trucker Hat Roulette! If you’ve seen this on Instagram you know. Everyone wore all black, grabbed a mystery trucker hat, and spent the day in them. It sounds ridiculous, but it was hilarious. Ten out of ten, would recommend creating your own ridiculous group tradition.

12:00 PM – We took a stroll down to Brown Dog Deli for lunch and it was exactly what we were craving. Amazing sandwiches, all too good sounding to choose. I went with a French Onion Grilled Cheese and it was divine.

3:00 PM – Afterwards, we explored King Street, found a few rooftop bars and explored until we were ready for a break.

6:30 PM – Dinner reservations at Church and Union.

9:00 PM – Then, walking distance from the restaurant was the meeting place for our Haunted Ghost Tour.

Day 3 – Saturday — Galentine’s Day

11:00 AM – Saturday was Valentine’s Day, and we dressed like it. We all got dolled up in our reds, pinks and whites and headed out to Iron Rose for brunch.

1:00 PM – Then, we strolled in the gorgeous weather to see Rainbow Row and the Pineapple Fountain. What’s great about Charleston with such a large group, is everyone was able to walk off and do what they wanted when there wasn’t something planned. I kept the itinerary light, for those who wanted to explore more historical sites, head home for some downtime, or bar hop.

7:00 PM – We all had a big drive home the next day, so we spent some quality time in our adorable house—face masks on, Thai food ordered, and hilarious card games played. And somehow, Dirty Dancing ended up coming on and we all watched (while some of us performed dance routines for the group). It was the perfect ending to a perfect trip.

The Best Restaurants in Charleston for a Girls’ Trip

Three days in Charleston is definitely not enough time to enjoy all the foods it has to offer, but we did a pretty good job while we were there. Here are all the restaurants we visited and a few others that are highly rated from our list.

Church and Union

This was my big birthday dinner location, and it absolutely lived up to the occasion. It’s a church turned restaurant and the vibe was on point. The food was absolutely amazing, one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. Featuring Modern-American cuisine and crafted cocktails it’s definitely special occasion worthy. Make sure to book in advance (and request the main dining room)—this one fills up fast.

Iron Rose

Iron Rose was our go to for Brunch on Valentine’s Day. The ambiance was perfect for what we were looking for and the mimosas were flowing. They have a really pretty courtyard area as well that we took full advantage of for photos.

Edmund’s Oast Craft Brewery

One of our unexpected favorites from the trip. If you’re willing to take a very short uber to this brewery, it’s worth it. The atmosphere is great, the beers were delicious and there’s a great menu if you need to grab a bite. And for those who aren’t beer fans, they have a full bar.

Bay Street Biergarten

I took a bit of a risk adding this place to the agenda, as it’s off the beaten path, but I’m so glad I did. The vibe of this place was exactly what I was looking for as our first stop in Charleston after a long drive. Local feel, tons of outdoor seating, and craft beer. And the food—wow. We opted for a bunch of apps and they were incredible.

Brown Dog Deli

If you are a sandwich lover, like me, this is a must add to your itinerary. The menu had sandwiches like Apple Butter Jeans (a pressed panini with turkey, ham, bacon jam, apple butter, brie spread, and arugula) and Totes Ma G.O.A.T.S (Boar’s Head Cajun Turkey, hot honey whipped goat, fig preserves, caramelized onion aioli, fontina, roma tomatoes and arugula.) We had a very hard time deciding what to order, and yes multiple bites were shared across orders.

Basic Kitchen

Basic Kitchen is a great option for those seeking a more health-conscious menu. They focus on using seasonal, local produce to create food that’s nourishing and delicious. We didn’t make it there this trip, but next time I am there it will be a go to for lunch.

Millers All Day

Millers All Day was my second option for brunch with the girls. With a more casual atmosphere, it wasn’t the Vday vibe I was going for, but it has great reviews. They also don’t take reservations, so check the wait time and plan ahead with this one.

Charleston’s Rooftop Bars & Nightlife Scene

Ok the Charleston nightlife scene is exceptional. From sophisticated rooftops to dive bars, there’s something for everyone. Here are the all the places we went on our trip and they are all worth a visit.

The Ritual

Located in the heart of Downtown Charleston, off King and Calhoun St., the rooftop has a beautiful view of the bridge and Marion Square. On a sunny February afternoon, this spot makes for the perfect location to lounge on the rooftop with a delicious cocktail.

The Recovery Room

You know you’ve found a great dive bar when it doesn’t even have a website. On our first night, we were recommended this bar from a local after they learned where our house was located. Just a short 10 minute walk down the street, it quickly became one of our favorite spots. Pool tables, cheap drinks, a DJ playing all the hits, and late night trivia? I mean you can’t beat it. We could not have asked for a better first night to kick off the trip. (And we won second place in trivia!)

The Citrus Club

The Citrus Club is a seriously classy joint. Located on the 8th floor of The Dewberry, it’s the highest rooftop in Charleston. With gorgeous views of Marion Square and the Charleston Harbor, it earned a permanent spot in our hearts. Especially when we tried the Wölffer Estate Dry Rosé Cider. If you are not a cider person, this will convert you. Bright, dry, perfectly effervescent, and absolutely iconic for a Valentine’s weekend girls’ trip.

Burns Alley Tavern

Tucked directly behind the YETI store on King Street, this little dive was a hidden gem. And we discovered it by asking the sales clerk at YETI what his favorite bar was. It’s the perfect counterpoint to the rooftop bars and a reminder that the best moments on a girls’ trip are often the spontaneous ones. I also have to shout out the YETI store for making it on our favorite bars list. The shopping experience was on point, with live music and a free whiskey tasting while you shop.

Henry’s on the Market

Henry’s on the Market was recommended to us by some locals as a great place for live entertainment. It’s a 4 story venue with a different band on each one. Be prepared to pay the rich $20 cover to get in, but it’s a place you can definitely stay at all night. The top floor was a legit concert venue and the entertainment was worth it.

Activities & Sightseeing in Charleston

Between the eating and drinking, Charleston has plenty to keep a group of women entertained, charmed, and slightly spooked.

King Street Shopping

King Street is the main street and an absolutely essential part of a Charleston visit. It’s hard to miss and it’s filled with a good mix of national retailers and locally-owned boutiques. Window shopping is a blast, but there are also so many fun bars and restaurants to tuck into as well.

The Haunted Ghost Tour

Charleston is considered one of the most haunted cities in America, and the ghost tours take that reputation very seriously. It’s the perfect combination of informative history and wonderfully spooky storytelling. Highly recommend booking in advance, and the after dinner walk was perfectly timed.

Rainbow Row, The Battery & Pineapple Fountain

No Charleston trip is complete without the sightseeing classics. Rainbow Row—the iconic stretch of pastel-colored historic homes, The Battery offering gorgeous waterfront views and the Pineapple Fountain which makes for the best group photo of the whole trip.

Walking tip: Downtown Charleston is extremely walkable. If you’re staying near King Street, you can cover Rainbow Row, The Battery, Waterfront Park, and back to King Street all on foot in a few hours. Wear comfortable shoes, though, the cobblestones are gorgeous but unforgiving.

Carriage Tour

Even though we didn’t get to fit this in, a carriage tour is one of Charleston’s most iconic experiences. These horse-drawn rides take you through the historic district all while sharing stories about the city’s history and architecture. Tours typically last about an hour and no two rides are exactly the same. It’s definitely at the top of our “next time” list for a slower, more immersive way to see the city.

City Market

We didn’t make it here on this trip, but the City Market is one of Charleston’s most well-known spots. Stretching several blocks, it’s home to dozens of local vendors selling everything from handmade goods to art and classic Lowcountry souvenirs.

The Perfect Charleston Girls’ Trip for Valentine’s Weekend

Charleston has a way of making you feel like time slows down. The streets are beautiful, the food is extraordinary, the history is everywhere you look, and the people are genuinely warm. February, with its mild weather, quieter crowds, and Valentine’s energy, might actually be the best possible time to experience it.

Morning of the Final Day

Breakfast was bright and early again at 7:45am, and we were all a giggle away from bursting in laughter at the memories from the previous night’s glow stick dance party. As we ate, we plotted our final day’s adventures, determined to squeeze every last drop of magic from our time together. Breakfast was the same as day two and I remembered to snap this half eaten photo of breaky. I added some oatmeal to the mix this time.

By day three, I’m not going to lie, I was exhausted and ready to take it easy, but camp had another plan.

Going High: The Morning Adventure

Although I opted out (this time!), the ropes course was open on this morning only for those daring to attempt the adventure.

The day kicked off at 8:30am sharp so everyone who wanted to get through the course could do so in time. Campers started off on the zip line. A 40-foot climb up to the slackwire where they had to cross just to get to the zipline platform. And then they were off! A few of us headed over to see what it was all about and were so proud of everyone conquering the course – a physical manifestation of the personal boundaries we’d been pushing all weekend. As we watched we all and considered and discussed our own personal fears and where our boundaries lie.

There was also a vertical obstacle course that campers were able to complete afterwards that looked equal parts fun, challenging and terrifying. I enjoyed watching the campers conquer their fears, and I may possibly attempt it next time, but for now, happy I kept my feet on the ground.

Morning Movement Choices

The 9:30am slot offered two distinctly different paths. The Spicy Colombian Yoga session, which sounded amazing, but also very tiring, brought heat and rhythm to the practice. But I opted for Natalie Oven’s “Activating Your Purpose” workshop, which invited us to dive deep into our journals and souls, getting “abundant AF” through guided meditation focused on money and how it affects all aspects of our lives. She encouraged reflection on how to be at peace with our own life choices. It was very different, but what my body and mind needed at the time.

Final Forms of Flow

At 10:30am, there was another opportunity to complete a FITBOOTS class. I started off here for a bit just to try it again since it was so much fun, but my blister was not treating me well even with a bandaid and I was also so tired, so I headed out early to make it to the 11am “Love Your Peach” session with Diana for one final flow. It was squat and booty shaking mixed with yoga and was really fun. A perfect mix of challenge and stretching mixed with Colombian flair made it a great final experience.

Before lunch I had a chance to quietly walk around the grounds and take in one final reflection on the amazing weekend in the beautiful weather.

The Last Lunch

Gathering for our final meal at noon felt like both a celebration and a farewell.

The boxed lunches were a thoughtful touch for those needing to hit the road, and it might have been one of my favorite lunches yet. A packed fruit bowl and potato salad with a pesto chicken sandwich on a pretzel bun that I devoured. As many of us lingered, exchanging contact information and Instagram handles, we promised to keep in touch and return next year. We also couldn’t forget those hugs goodbye to all the amazing hosts of Camp Yoga.

The Complete Camp Yoga Experience: What You Should Know

Throughout the weekend, I discovered there were even more layers to Camp Yoga than what appeared on the schedule. For those planning their own adventure, here’s your comprehensive guide to making the most of it:

Essential Packing Tips

• Make sure to bring a reusable water bottle and carry it with you everywhere
• Bring versatile clothing options:
  • Athletic wear for daytime activities (pack two outfits per day, just in case you want to change after sweaty morning sessions)
  • Sneakers are a must and are required if you are doing te ropes course
  • Cozy clothes for meditation sessions
  • A light sweatshirt, the ballrooms can get pretty chilly
  • 1 party outfit for the dance party, not fancy just fun (every other night was pretty chill, we wore comfy maxi dresses the first night and immediately changed after dinner once we saw how comfy people were dressed)

• Don’t forget a journal and pen for reflection sessions, if you are participating

• Don’t underestimate yourself – you’re capable of more than you think, and the supportive community will help you thrive

Hidden Gems You Might Miss

Throughout the weekend, I discovered several optional experiences that added extra depth to the camp experience. These are things you can book ahead of time or on-site.

• Massage appointments (book early in the weekend – they fill up fast)
• Mala bracelet making workshops ($35) for a mindful crafting experience
• Professional tattoo artist on-site (yes, real tattoos – talk about a permanent camp souvenir!)

Day 3 at Camp Yoga Florida: Namaste to the Final Day

As we packed up our yoga mats and belongings, the impact of the weekend began to sink in. Camp Yoga Florida isn’t just a wellness retreat or an adult summer camp – it’s a reminder that growth doesn’t have to be serious, that fitness can be playful, and that sometimes the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the pure joy of movement and community.

Sunrise Start: Fueling the Journey

The day began with a 7:45am breakfast in the ballroom, where we fueled up for the day with eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, potatoes, bagels and toast, and lots of coffee. Everyone was buzzing with excitement as we all reviewed the schedule of events and tried to decide where we should go first.

Morning Choose-Your-Own-Adventure

With so many amazing options starting at 9am, it was really hard to choose which class we wanted to go to. There was an activity for every camper to follow their path, whatever that may have been.

If it was a peaceful day on the water, canoeing and paddle boats might have been calling their names at the Lake Boat House.

We decided to try YOGALATES with Vanessa and we’re glad we did. She led us through a challenging yoga class fused with pilates moves that really got us feeling the burn. Lots of campers opted to start with Jessica’s Happy Hips Yoga session, which I am sure helped to release both physical and emotional tension, especially after the previous day.

Kelly and I loved starting with a more challenging class that got our body temp up, and then followed immediately with a guided Feel Good Yoga Flow class with Asia Roth that was equal parts challenging and completely restorative.

Mid-Morning Movement Magic

At 11am, there was another choose-your adventure crossroads as the camp’s energy shifted into higher gear. Ozzy Bingham introduced the camp to Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art that made dancing feel like a warrior’s ritual. Meanwhile, Dr. Stephanie Nairn’s GROOVE session threw out all dance rules, creating a judgment-free zone where every body could move authentically.

From a dancer’s background for both Kelly and I, we appreciated the concept of this class, but it was definitely not what we expected. It was more about feeling comfortable in your own skin, not caring what anyone thinks and moving with the music. We went along with it, and the smiles in the class were absolutely contagious because the company was exceptional. But we were definitely ready for it to be over and for some grub after all that movement.

Break for Lunch

By noon, we were starving and ready for a delicious lunch. And it did not disappoint.

It was good ‘ole BBQ and it was so yummy. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious, I had to go back for seconds!

Afternoon Adventures: From Manifestation to Movement

After lunch, we were so ready to have an outdoor adventure and headed back to our “outdoor studio” under the tree’s for Alex’s “Manifest That Shit” session at 1:15pm. It was a beautiful blend of movement and intention-setting, to the sound of nature around us. We experimented with some partner work and manifested our biggest goals and dreams in life, at that moment in time.

And the action did not stop there! At 2:30pm, we headed up to a wildly different but equally engaging class called FITBOOTS. Imagine a trampoline on your feet, high-energy music and a cardio workout that gets you sweating like crazy without even realizing it.

It was such a fun class and I was drenched in sweat by the end. I would definitely love to try this class again.

Tip: Bring high socks to this event. I was wearing my low cut socks and I got a really bad blister on my ankle that still hurts. I would have taken the class again if I didn’t have that.

Pool Party Perfection

We only had time for a short rest in the room before getting ready for the pool party shenanigans. By then I was ready to relax with a cold drink and watch the adult recess begin. There were relay races, limbo, a rock paper scissors tournament, and a DJ. The pool was the perfect temp and the entertainment was top notch. It proved that wellness doesn’t always have to be serious – sometimes it’s about feeling like a kid again.

The Last Dinner

The last dinner of the weekend was another hit. Fresh fish, chicken, rice and veggies and a scrumptious pineapple salsa that I mixed up with everything making into a yummy sauce. And for dessert, Key Lime Pie, which is one of my faves.

Evening Reflection and Celebration

As the sun began to set, the energy shifted once again. After dinner, Yuky Angulo led us through “Integrate That Shit,” a powerful community meditation that helped us process the day’s experiences and educate us on herbal medicines.

We each pulled a card before the practice and it was a guiding mantra for each of us, which I thought was really interesting. I pulled “Anahata Kali” and read in Yuky’s book a little about it. Here’s an excerpt: “Beautiful, powerful Mother of the Sacred Universal Heart, who lives within our hearts as the wisdom and healing power of love. Your heart knows how to heal, and how to open, how to break and repair itself to become stronger and wiser than before.” I thought that was lovely!

After our calming meditation and conversation, the night was far from over. The evening transitioned into another round of Silly Wine Tasting (because why not?) before culminating in what might have been the highlight of camp: a Glow Stick Dance Party that transformed the Ballroom into a neon-lit celebration of movement, music, and newfound friendships.

The wine tasting crew headed back to our rooms to get in our bright colors, tutu’s and glow in the dark accessories before heading to the party. It was the perfect end to the night.

Day 2 at Camp Yoga Florida

Day 2 at Camp Yoga Florida was everything I could have asked for, and more. It was such an amazing feeling to be around so many like-minded people, and to focus on our bodies and our minds with such open hearts. As I fell into bed that night, glow sticks still pulsing on my nightstand, I couldn’t help but marvel at how this adult summer camp had managed to create such a perfect blend of wellness and playfulness.

With one day left to go, I was already dreading having to leave this magical space where adults are encouraged to play, grow, and glow – sometimes all at once.

Morning Arrival and Check-In

The camp ground was about an hour drive from Winter Garden and check in was at the the Smith Center at 10:30am.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I walked in the main entrance, but I could tell that the energy was palpable, even in the parking lot. Fellow campers were unloading their cars, with their yoga mats tucked under their arms and excitement written across their faces. I checked in with the staff and got the key to my room, which was down a hall in the Smith Center. Most everyone stayed there so it was a great central location to everything.

The room was so nice, too. It was more like a hotel than a campground cabin.

The room was stocked with towels, shampoo/conditioner/soap, a coffee maker, fridge and microwave. It was very comfortable, and definitely the way I like to “camp.”

Setting the Tone at Opening Ceremonies

After checkin and getting settled in the room, it was time for the opening ceremonies at 11:30am. This was one of my personal highlights of the trip. Everyone at Yoga Camp gathered for an introduction to the CY staff and the fitness instructors. We were all still so new to each other, so we started off with a fun little ice breaker with a nearby camper. It was not awkward at all either, it was such an enjoyable time getting to know everyone, and everyone I met was awesome. Then we took a class that served as a sneak peak of all of classes, giving the teaching staff a chance to introduce themselves and each bringing their unique energy and style to the experience.

Tip: When they say bring water and sunscreen, they mean it. The Florida sun doesn’t mess around, even in the morning. I brought my water bottle with me everywhere and constantly filled it up at the water stations throughout the Smith Center.

Fueling Up with A Mindful Lunch Experience

Following immediately after our energizing opening session, lunch in the ballroom wasn’t just about refueling – it was another chance to connect with fellow campers. Yogis came from near and far, as far as California and Canada! And there were tons of Floridians as well which was so fun to connect with others who were local to me. I was so curious about what the food was going to be like on this retreat, and I was really impressed! They catered to all dietary restrictions and made sure that those who registered as vegetarian, gluten free etc. had options to choose from.

Lunch on day one was a hot dog and burger bar, with grilled chicken thighs and broccoli salad. It was really delicious and just the right amount of filling. Because the afternoon was packed with tons of activities.

Afternoon Adventures: From Zen to Bullseye

At 2:30, you could choose between multiple options, like Firey Funky Yoga Flow, canoeing and paddle boating, FITBOOTS or unleashing your inner Katniss Everdeen. Which is what I opted to do. Day one was the only day that Archery was on the schedule, because they had an Elk staff instructor there to guide us. Who knew that archery could be so meditative? And hard! I had a blast learning the basics and channeling scenes from my favorite book, The Hunger Games. There’s something incredibly satisfying about the focus required to hit a target – it’s mindfulness in action, just with more arrows than usual.

After several attempts, I hit an amazing shot right in the center bullseye! And drop the bow!

Afternoon Yoga Sessions

The afternoon brought two distinctly different but equally amazing yoga experiences. First up was the “Let That Shit Go” yoga session with Alex Tacket on the Lake View Patio, where my Yogi in crime Kelly met up with me for the weekend. Picture this: a kickass playlist, zero judgment, and the kind of freedom that comes with being told there’s no wrong way to let it go. It was exactly what my soul needed. And you could not beat this view.

Following that was a completely different vibe with Kristen Achitz’s Yoga Nidra session. If you’ve never experienced “yogic sleep,” imagine the most relaxing guided meditation while lying in savasana. Kristin’s voice was so calming, it was a delightful session.

Evening Festivities: Where Wellness Meets Fun

Dinner at 6:00 PM was another opportunity to share stories and laughs with new friends. It was so much fun finding a new group of people to sit with at each meal and continuing conversations started with other friends met along the way. Dinner was a taco bar with ground beef and chicken tacos and the most delicious cinnamon churro cake with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, that I could not stop eating.

After dinner, Kelly and I took a walk around the grounds before the real fun began at 7:15 PM, with what might have been the most unique wine tasting I’ve ever experienced. For $30, we got to participate in an event that was equal parts wine appreciation and impromptu show. We were put into groups, red wine versus white wine, and it was like an open mic night at a comedy show as our hosts asked questions of the participants and the spectators.

The night wound down with board games and casual conversation on the SC Patio. It was a early day the next day and a jam packed schedule of fitness classes so we headed to bed around 9:30pm.

The Unexpected Magic of Adult Camp

And that’s day one of Yoga Camp in the books! What struck me right off that bat about day one at Camp Yoga Florida is how it managed to balance wellness with pure, unadulterated fun. It wasn’t about perfect poses or strict schedules – it was about finding your tribe while finding yourself. Between the structured activities and the organic moments of connection, something special started to take shape.

Day one down, and already I could tell: this isn’t just a yoga retreat – it’s an adventure in rediscovering joy through movement, mindfulness, and maybe a little mischief.

1. Snorkeling in Grand Turk: A Caribbean Dream Come True

One of the main reasons why we chose this itinerary is because the first stop was Grand Turk in Turks & Caicos. The moment we stepped into those turquoise waters, I knew we’d made the right choice. The island’s western coast offers some of the Caribbean’s most spectacular snorkeling spots. We opted not to sign up for any excursions (we spent that budget on the drink package, hehe) but I brought masks and snorkels with us for this spot. It was incredible. Just off the shore there were tons of fish and sealife. For the kid’s first snorkel experience it was definitely a highlight. And I could not get enough of the water, it was amazing.

2. The Food: A Culinary Journey at Sea

Forget everything you’ve heard about cruise ship food. The Mardi Gras takes dining to another level with over 22 different dining options. We found ourselves rotating between Guy’s Burger Joint (yes, those burgers are as good as everyone says), Shaq’s Big Chicken (the best chicken sandwiches at sea), fresh tacos at Blue Iguana, and Chibang—a fusion of Mexican and Asian cuisines, and complementary for the first visit. The main dining room really surprised us as well with their quality and variety, and the menu on formal night—lobster tail and prime rib—did not disappoint.

3. The Entertainment: Broadway Meets the High Seas

Every night brought something new. From full-scale production shows to comedy clubs that had us laughing until our sides hurt, the entertainment team knows how to keep things fresh. The talent on board was top notch. From Broadway level musicals, to a piano bar that filled up every night, to amazing live music like our personal favorites the Celestial Strings, a group of three talented female artists playing string instruments. And our kids will not stop talking about how funny the Family Feud show was. Our cruise director Rainier knew how to keep the party going.

4. The Free Ice Cream: Sweet Treats 24/7

Of course when I asked the kids what their top 10 best memory from the cruise was, ice cream was high on the list. It might seem silly to list ice cream as a highlight, but hear me out. There’s something magical about having access to unlimited soft-serve ice cream at any hour. Not only were the ice cream machines conveniently located, but the flavors were so delicious and refreshing on a hot day.

5. The Pools: Oases for Every Mood

The Mardi Gras doesn’t just have pools – it has water experiences. The main pool deck buzzes with energy and music, while the adults-only Serenity area offers a peaceful retreat with infinity pools and hot tubs overlooking the ocean. (If you can get the kids in the kids club, or hanging with grandparents, the hot tubs are the hottest in the Serenity area and spacious, too.) Other than the main pool and serenity pools, there were two other pools at the back of the ship, and when sailing or in port the views were amazing.

6. The Ultimate Playground: BOLT and Beyond

Let’s talk about the Ultimate Playground at sea. Keeping the kids entertained with ropes courses, mini golf, multiple slides, a water playground and BOLT—the first roller coaster at sea. At $15 per ride, it’s a little pricey but it’s definitely an exciting ride for adventure seekers. For our family, sitting on the photo opp version was enough. We really loved the mini golf area and played three times during our trip. We are a pretty competitive family!

7. The Bars: Craft Cocktails with Ocean Views

Each bar has its own personality, and there are so many to choose from. The Fortune Teller Bar mixes up mystical concoctions, while the Alchemy Bar’s “pharmacy-themed” cocktails are crafted by mixologists in lab coats. The Havana Bar came alive at night when the live Latin music began and the mojitos started flowing. Our favorite spot became the Brass Magnolia, with deliciously crafted beverages, a beautiful luxury ambiance with a tropical theme that created the perfect evening vibe. After grabbing a drink, we sat in the lounge where we listened to live music every night before dinner. For Happy Hour beverages, I got hooked on the Planter’s Punch, only available at the Watering Hole bar on one of the outdoor prominades.

8. The Room: Our Home Away From Home

We stayed in a standard balcony cabin, but there was nothing standard about it. Smart design made the most of every inch, with plenty of storage space and a comfortable bed that rivaled high-end hotels. The couch turned into bunk beds for the kids, which of course they loved, trading off who got top bunk each night. The balcony became our favorite spot for morning coffee and sunset views.

9. The Views: Nature’s Best Show

Whether sailing through the Caribbean or watching the sunset from our balcony, the views never disappointed. The ship’s design maximizes ocean vistas with floor-to-ceiling windows in public areas and plenty of outdoor spaces to soak in the scenery. While we were docked at the Dominican Republic, we took advantage of the less crowded pool decks and posted up with this amazing view of the island.

10. The Company: Family Makes the Difference

What truly set this cruise apart was the company we shared the experience with. It was a full family affair with both sets of grandparents and my brother and his wife. Cruises are such an amazing experience with a big group because there is something for everyone and easy for everyone to get around. It was such a great memory with the family! And we have to give a shout out to the Mardi Gras crew. From our room steward who knew our names from day one, to the waiters who remembered our favorite drinks, the level of service was exceptional. They turned a great vacation into an unforgettable one.

Our night kicked off at Artifact Candle Foundry, Winter Garden’s newest creative hotspot at 267 Tremaine Street. If you haven’t tried candle making yet, you’re missing out on one of the most fun DIY experiences around. The moment we walked in, the amazing scents hit us – think warm vanilla, fresh citrus, and exotic florals all mingling in the air.

What makes Artifact special isn’t just the candle-making process (though that’s pretty amazing). It’s the whole experience. Their scent specialists guided us through creating our own custom fragrances, helping us blend premium oils to create something uniquely ours. Pro tip: make a reservation if you’re planning to go on a weekend – they can get pretty busy!

The experience starts off with smelling all the amazing, and unique scents they have to offer. From Olive Blossom to Fireside, there were so many options to choose from. Once we created our list of 5-6 of our favorite scents, it was time to become master mixers and create the perfect blend of oils for our candles.

The mixing, smelling and sharing with each other was an interactive and fun way to spend time together and learn a little bit about each other through scent preferences during the experience. And before we could call our candles complete, the fun part was naming our candles and sharing with each other.

Dinner & Drinks in Historic Winter Garden

After channeling our inner candlemakers, we were ready for dinner. Just a short walk away at 251 Tremaine Street, we found ourselves at Mangoni Italian Market & Pizza. This cozy Italian restaurant has quickly become one of Winter Garden’s most talked-about dining spots, and it’s obvious why. The wood-fired pizzas are incredible – they make their dough and sauce from scratch daily. The atmosphere feels like you’ve stepped into a little piece of Italy, right here in Florida.

Their signature pizzas are crafted to be mouthwatering masterpieces, like the GOAT—with goat cheese, 3-cheese sauce, honey, wild mushrooms, walnuts and thyme, or my personal favorite the Bianca, topped with pesto and basil.

And the crafted cocktails are so unique. Like the Lemon Drop Martini with a Szechuan edible button flower garnish or the Italian Mule, their take on the Moscow Mule.

To cap off our perfect evening, we headed to Tony’s Liquors on West Plant Street. Don’t let the liquor store front fool you – in the back, there’s a fantastic bar that feels like Winter Garden’s version of “Cheers.” It’s got that perfect local hangout vibe with pool tables, darts, and some of the friendliest bartenders in town. The drink specials didn’t hurt either!

What made this girls’ night special wasn’t just the individual spots we visited – it was how perfectly they worked together. Within a few blocks of each other in historic downtown Winter Garden, we got to be creative, enjoy amazing food, and relax with drinks, all while catching up and making memories.

• Text your besties girls group about a date and make a reservation at Artifact Candle Foundry (especially for weekend visits). Seating is limited so make sure they have enough space for your entire party.
• Experience start times vary each day. On Saturdays they start at 10am and end at 5pm. And on Fridays they start at 3pm and end at 6pm. Give yourself about 1-1.5 hours for the candle-making experience.
• Consider making an early dinner reservation at Mangoni to ensure you get a table.
• End the night at Tony’s for that perfect, laid-back atmosphere.
• The Candles will need to cure for 1-2 days, so you’ll have to remember to pick them up after the event. One person can pick up for the group so that makes it super easy.

Winter Garden has really grown into its own as a destination for great nights out. Between the historic charm of downtown, the variety of things to do, and the walkability of it all, it’s become a go-to spot for gathering with friends. Location

My birthday and son’s birthday are both in February and since it’s a colder month, we thought skiing would be the perfect birthday present for both of us. When we were thinking through locations, we knew Colorado was the known locale, but as we researched we got majorly overwhelmed. The long weekend trip we wanted to take started to sound a lot less fun with all the travel and the time difference. So we decided to start looking in the Northeast, mostly because of the timezone. We asked around to some family up north, and heard about Jiminy Peak in Massachusetts. When we looked into it, we knew it was the perfect place for us. We flew into the Albany International Airport on a direct flight, and rented a car. The drive was 55 minutes to get to the resort.

The Resort

Jiminy Peak was the perfect ski-in, ski-out resort for beginners. It had everything we needed right there on site. Our room had a small kitchen, so we could cook meals for the family. The ability to ski right up to the front door of our hotel was also incredible, especially for us beginners. We were not very efficient at taking on and off our gear, so I honestly couldn’t imagine having to drive anywhere to ski. There is an amazing restaurant on site as well. One of my favorite aspects was that the ski school, which is on site, also lets you keep the gear for the weekend included in the cost. That was one of our biggest concerns when planning our trip was how we were going to learn and where we were going to rent the gear, but Jiminy Peak made that so easy for us.

First Family Ski Trip Review – The Itinerary

Friday

Since we didn’t have school or work off during this time, we decided to go for a long weekend. But we made the best of it, and it was definitely enough time to do everything we wanted. We flew in on a Thursday afternoon around 4:30pm, and when we arrived, the kids immediately started playing in the snow.

The next morning, it was time for our ski lessons! They fitted us with our skiis (by the way, we did not learn to ski with sticks, which we were all shocked about) and then we were ready to go!

The kids caught on in their lesson so quickly! I was very impressed. It was all that rollerblading at home.

Having the rental car was also really convenient, because we took a trip first thing in the morning to the store to grab some essentials for breakfast and lunch so we didn’t have to eat out every meal.

That night, we decided to check out the restaurant, John Harvard’s, so we didn’t have to cook for dinner, and it was actually really good.

Saturday

Saturday was more skiing, as we got the hang of it. Rylee and I stayed on the bunny slope, but Brett and Reece decided to venture off to the next level slope and loved it. Pretty much after that, it’s all they wanted to do. It was terrifying, but also fun (I guess).

At the resort, they also had night skiing after it shuts down to the public, only for resort guests. We had the entire mountain to ourselves and it was really cool to ski at night. The kids and Brett went on repeat, but after a couple times, I was ready for some après-ski.

That night we had dinner plans at the restaurant onsite to celebrate our birthdays. It was that good we wanted to go back again.

And wanna know what we did after dinner?

More skiing.

Sunday

Sunday we explored the property some more, off the slopes.

The weather started getting really bad sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, and they shut everything down due to severe cold. When we finally emerged from the room, even the water in the creek was frozen solid!

After lunch, we ventured off site to a nearby mountain, Bousquet Mountain, for some craft beer and tubing. This was probably my favorite event!

We were early for our tubing res, so we grabbed a brew and sat out on the veranda, watching all the skiers come down the mountain. The sun was out and it was so beautiful for being winter, we could have stayed out there all day.

Tubing was the most fun thing I have ever done. If you’ve ever asked yourself, “But how do you get back up the mountain after?” here’s your answer:

Conveyor belt ramp. It’s like Disney on ice! So much fun.

We had checked out that morning and had the car packed up so we could head straight to the airport after. Our flight was at 6pm, so we got home pretty late that night.

But I have to say, my kids do not stop talking about this trip. They still to this day say it was their favorite vacation and their favorite place to go. If you read through their interviews from the past couple years, that is why Massachusetts is their favorite place to visit.

First Family Ski Trip Review

So I’d say that our first family ski trip was pretty successful. It was stress-free, thanks to Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort and we have a very special place in our hearts for it. We would 100% go back there again to ski. There is still more for us to explore there since we didn’t do many of the slopes, but I think going back to the same place would really help our comfort level and having an even more incredible experience there.

Marriott’s Crystal Shores Marco Island Family Vacation

On our family vacation, we stayed at Marriott’s Crystal Shores. It’s right on the beach and has spacious 2-room villas with full kitchens and comfortable living areas, perfect for families. My parents own a timeshare with Marriott’s Vacation Club and we’ve been vacationing with them every summer for many years. We loved staying at this resort because it has multiple pools, one with a slide that the kids loved, jacuzzis, a private beach, two restaurants, and the activity/recreation calendar was amazing. The property was also a perfect size for giving the kids some more independence and allowing them to do certain things on their own. The location was great as well and was walking distance to several restaurants and shops.

Things to Do in Marco Island on Family Vacation

When your staying at Marriott’s Crystal Shores, there is already so much to do—swimming, poolside trivia, ping pong or cornhole, and dining at Stilts Beachside Bar & Grill while watching the sunset. But if you’re ready for a little adventure off property, there is so much to do. Here’s a list of some must do things on a Marco Island family vacation.

1. Play a Round of Golf

Marco Island is known for its beaches, but it’s also known for its golf courses as well. Take a break from the sand and hit the greens at many golf courses in the area just a short drive off the island in Naples. While we were there we golfed at two executive courses that were about 20 minutes away.

2. Take a Catamaran Boat Tour

The kids always love a good boat ride. And it’s a bonus when dolphins and other wildlife are included. This Catamaran Tour picks you up right on Marco Island beach, steps from your hotel. It also stops at an uninhabited island where you can find beautiful shell treasures to take home with you.

3. Go on a Fishing Charter

One of our favorite traditions (for the boys anyways) is a fishing trip. Whether deep sea fishing or back country fishing, there’s a bunch of options in the area, like Sunshine Tours. It’s always our favorite souvenir when the guys come back—the freshest catch from sea to kitchen.

4. Take a Walk on the Beach and Shell

Getting up early, before everyone else and taking a walk on the beach is one of the most relaxing and otherworldly things. The water is so calm and quiet and if you look closely you can find some of the most beautiful shells right there on the beach.

5. Yoga on the Beach

Start your day with a serene yoga session right on the beach while taking in the stunning ocean views. Our hotel offered classes while we were there, and I highly recommend. Not only was it a beautiful new setting, but it was challenging as well. Many of the hotels in the area offer it, so check their calendars and take advantage. Or you can bring a blanket and your favorite YouTube yoga class and conduct one yourself!

6. Go Shopping

When you need a break from the sun—or the rain—shopping is always a great option. You can visit the Esplanade Shoppes for a variety of boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. Across the street from our hotel was also a smaller shopping center, great for souvenirs, or even some gelato at Dolce Mare, a family owned shop with delicious homemade gelato and chocolates.

7. Have a Sunset Happy Hour

And at the end of a long day, filled with adventure, pull up a beach chair, grab a glass of wine, sit the kids down on a beach blanket, play some music, and enjoy the colors of the sky as the sun sets over the horizon.

Hello fellow beach lovers! If you’re anything like me, the thought of packing for a family beach vacation is enough to make you consider just staying home and setting up a sandbox in the backyard. Packing usually takes me a week because I hate the stress of doing last minute and potentially forgetting something. That’s why this post for what to pack for the family for the beach is filled with a few simple hacks and some tried-and-true tips that can make packing for the beach a breeze, even with kids in tow.

Tips for What to Pack for the Family for the Beach

1. The Power of the List: Don’t rely on your sleep-deprived brain to remember everything. Start a master packing list and add things as you remember. Then use it while you’re packing and check it off. Break it down by person (mom, boy, girl) and by category (swimwear, clothes, toiletries, etc.). I’ve got you covered with a free downloadable packing list at the end of this post!

2. Cube It Up: Packing cubes, like these, are a game-changer for family trips. They compress your clothes to save space, keep everything organized, and make it easy to find what you need at a glance. Plus, you can separate the kids’ clothes by category (PJs, socks, swimsuits) for stress-free mornings.

3. Snacks are Key: Goldfish, granola bars, fruit – whatever your kiddos love, pack it. A hangry child (or mom) is no fun at the beach. I like to keep them in these waterproof bags, along with a change of clothes.

4. Beach Bag, Ready: Pack your beach bag separately from your other luggage. That way, if your room isn’t ready yet when you arrive, you can still hit the beach or pool right away. Don’t forget a change of clothes, sunscreen, water bottles, and those all-important snacks!

5. Don’t Overdo It: If you’re staying in a timeshare or place with a washer/dryer, take advantage! You can pack lighter, especially for the kids who won’t mind wearing the same favorite shirt every day. You can dry their bathing suits at the end of each day so they are ready for the next. Or even do full loads of laundry to lighten the load.

My Favorite Items and Must-Haves for a Trip to the Beach

Now that you’ve got some tips for how to make packing easy (maybe even fun!) here are a few of my favorite items for what to pack for the family to have a great time at the beach.

Beach Blanket: A big sand-repellent blanket is a must for comfortable lounging. I like to keep part of the blanket in the shade and part in the sun so those of us who want to get a little sun can tan. Look for ones with the corner pockets you can fill with sand so they don’t blow away, like this one. And it comes with a convenient carrying case.

Solar Buddies: Applying sunscreen to a squirming kid is basically impossible. Solar Buddies make it easy—just roll it on. They can even do it themselves!

Corkcicle Cooler Backpack: An easy to carry cooler, that looks stylish too, is a must. We don’t leave the house without our Corkcicle cooler backpack. Pack sandwiches, fruit, cheese and drinks to make the perfect beach picnic.

My Favorite Items and Must-Haves for a Trip to the Beach, Continued

Beach Umbrella: Or two! Because even moms need a little break from the sun. Having a place to retreat from the sun always makes a day at the beach more enjoyable. Especially if you plan to eat there, eating in the shade is a must.

Frost Buddy: There’s a Solar Buddy for the kids, but this one is for the adults. Frost Buddy makes the best universal drink koozie that keeps your beverage cold for hours. And you can switch it up! If you want a regular can first and then a slim can, or even bottle, it fits them all.

Bogg Bag: A waterproof bag at the beach like the Bogg Bag, that you don’t have to worry about is the best. This genius bag is fully washable and carries a lot. And if you get the dividers for it, which are game changers for me, you can keep all your beach gear organized. No more digging for lost sunscreen!

Favorite Hat: A week in the sun can definitely bring the heat, so packing a good hat is key for keeping your face protected. A traditional baseball cap is a great option for playing catch on the beach. I also absolutely love this Wide Brim Straw Panama Hat that adds a stylish touch. It’s great to travel with as it’s flexible and will not lose its shape, and I’ve gotten it completely wet before and it’s still perfect. I highly recommend.

Highlights: Vacationing in Singer Island is the laid back, Florida beach vacation that everyone craves. The Marriott Ocean Pointe is in the perfect location and built for families. With two-bedroom suites to fit the entire family, it’s secluded enough to feel like a private getaway, while also just a short drive away from the beautiful Palm Beach and other local attractions. The resort features tons of activities for the kids, and adults alike, including fireside s’mores, dance parties, trivia, ice cream sundae parties, not to mention the kids activity center, where they can take some time indoors away from the sun to play games and arts and crafts.

Why we love it: This is a family favorite of ours and we have been going here for years. The property is beautiful and the beach is even more incredible. All Inclusive Royal Caribbean Cruise Vacation

Highlights: If it isn’t already obvious by the title of this one, the kids cannot get enough of an all-inclusive vacation. The concept of them asking us for something and us actually saying yes to it because it’s FREE was a bit mind-boggling for them, but they couldn’t get enough. Another virgin strawberry daiquiri? Of course! Not only are there endless food options, but the activities on a cruise are non-stop. and the crystal blue waters of the caribbean are unbeatable. But the best part is, the kids can’t wait to go to the kids club where they can hang out all night, sans parents.

Why we love it: You cannot beat a cruise vacation when it comes to planning. Because, well, there isn’t any! All you need to do is find your perfect match boat, we love Royal Caribbean, and the cruise does the rest. With planned shows, activities, destinations and food already planned for you, you can enjoy the perfect family getaway and not have to worry about a thing.

The Incredible Great Wolf Lodge

Highlights: Never ending entertainment for the kids means a relaxing and fun vacay for the parents. From rock climbing and ropes courses to bowling, a water park and morning yoga, there’s so much to do. When you get there, you can choose which pass you want for the kids and from there it’s a free for all. It might even be hard to complete everything they have on site, but not impossible! One of the coolest things we experienced was the magic. Magic Quest was an incredible, immersive journey like nothing we’ve ever experienced that lasted our entire stay. The kids loved picking out their magic wands and using them throughout the resort to explore and solve problems to complete the quest.

Why we love it: The Great Wolf Lodge keeps the kids entertained for the entirety of the vacation, without even leaving the property. Even walking through the hallways is exciting! There is always something to do, even in the chillier months with the indoor water park and wave pool. Outdoor Family Adventure at the Dillard House

Highlights: There is nothing better than getting outside and away from devices. Which is easy to do at the Dillard House. Located in the mountains of Georgia, internet access is a bit spotty, but definitely not missed with the mountains of adventure all around. Not only are the views amazing, but the experiences are like none other. From fishing to horseback riding, grilling in the outdoors and climbing waterfalls, the kids were whisked away from the ordinary and into a world of adventure.

Why we love it: Every day is adventure when you are at the Dillard house. Not only does it hold a special place in our hearts, due to it being Brett and I’s first ever vacation together, but the location is out of this world beautiful. The location of the Dillard House is great, amongst the Blue Ridge Mountains, with many amenities right on site. And just a short drive away is trout fishing, the city of Helen, a quaint Bavarian themed city with restaurants and shops, and a mountain roller coaster. A Palace on the Emerald Coast

Highlights: Can you imagine a better way to live for a week than in a mansion on the beach with three of your best friends and their families? I know, it’s hard. And a great location for this family friendly beach vacation is Watersound in the panhandle of Florida, known as the Emerald Coast and famous for its pristine beaches. Although not much swimming in the ocean can be done at this time of year (at least for the adults!) it’s the most picturesque setting you can imagine. The house we stayed in was in Watersound, a neighborhood walking distance to the beach, with a pool and mini golf course. It was less than a mile to the famous Seaside where you can venture off for a delicious lunch and some shopping.

Why we love it: Sometimes it’s nice to be around the people you love in a setting that is as dreamy as it gets. And our group loves to eat and drink, so each night featured a delicious dinner cooked by each family. A definite highlight. It was great to have the kids all together so the adults could hang in the hot tub and early morning walks on the beach were a must.

Magical Walt Disney World Staycation

Highlights: You just can’t write a spring break family vacation roundup post and not include a trip to Disney. Since we’re Central Florida residents, a spring break trip to the parks, although expensive, is still a cost savings travel wise for us. In the Spring there’s usually Florida resident passes available, and there is nothing more magical than staying a few nights on-site. With exceptional service and transportation to all the parks, a few nights away at Disney can be the perfect Spring Break adventure.

Why we love it: As much as we try to deny it, there’s something about Disney that brings out the kid in us and makes us want to live in the moment. No matter how old we or the kids get, it’s always a special time to visit the parks and immerse ourselves into the rides or movies we loved as kids. Staying on site is definitely the most convenient if your making a staycation out of it, and our favorite part is coming home from the parks in the middle of the date to enjoy ourselves poolside. Planning a family-friendly Spring Break can take a bit of research and planning. It’s an opportunity to try something different and go somewhere new. Once you know what type of vacation you want to go on, make sure there’s plenty for both the parents and the kiddos to enjoy, and bonus if there’s a kids camp for a little date night action.
